OUR STORY
the history of life community church

THE BEGINNING
In October, 1956, the First Baptist Church of Greensboro authorized their Advancement Committee and Church staff, to survey, organize, and operate a mission or branch church in the Hunter Hills community to be known as the Hunter Hills Baptist Church.

The Rev. William D. Fox was called as pastor of the new mission church and 24 persons became members of the Mother Church. Sufficient personnel came from First Baptist to staff every department in Sunday School and Training Union. The Piedmont Baptist Association made a down payment on a selected site for the Hunter Hills Baptist Church and conveyed the deed to the Trustees of the Fist Baptist Church subject to the remaining indebtedness.

After about a year of operation, the Hunter Hills congregation asked the mother church to help them build and furnish a building similar to the one built for the Lawndale Baptist Church. The mother church agreed to the proposal provided the Hunter Hills congregation would assume 50% of the construction and furnishing cost by the time they were constituted an independent church.

The Hunter Hills Church held services in their new church building on August 24, 1958. The following December the mission became Hunter Hills Baptist Church with 127 charter members. William D. Fox was called as pastor. In 1972 a Fellowship Building was constructed near the main building.

THE PAST
In May 1980 the church dedicated a new auditorium with a seating capacity of 575. Realizing the need for more space in the near future, the church purchased 12 acres of additional land in 1983. On October 5, 1986 the church dedicated a glorious new sanctuary with a seating capacity of 1600 with a 125 voice choir loft and an orchestra pit. A sky light in the center of the building compliments the magnificent stain glass windows that reveal the story of Jesus and His love. But the undeniable and overwhelming characteristic that's immediately recognized at Hunter Hills is not the beautiful surroundings but the unmistakable presence of the blessed Savior.

THE PRESENT
On August 18th, 1996 the church purchased 28 acres on Wendover Avenue and on June 27th, 2004 Hunter Hills on Merritt Drive relocated to 4900 W. Wendover and became Life Community Church. A week prior to the first service the Bible was read, out loud in its entirety, from Genesis to Revelation in the multi-purpose worship center reminding every member that the Word of God is the priority at LCC.

The ministries of LCC provide something for the entire family. Every program is designed for life change; inward, outward and upward. LCC offers ladies and men's ministries, senior and single adult ministries, children and youth ministries and an excellent pre-school department that is committed to “training up children in the way that they should go.” (Prov. 22:6) Ministries such as Awana, Mops, Upward, and our deaf ministry impact our community while our Hispanic, Asian, Dominican Republic and refugee ministries are all apart of our ministries at home and abroad.  The desire of LCC is to impact our community and reach the next generation as we honor our Lord Jesus Christ and build His Kingdom. That's seen in our Upward Sports program and the new Youth Building and athletic fields recently completed in May, 2009.

God provided an historical moment on June 8th, 2011 when Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in High Point voted to deed their existing facility and property over to LCC. The church was averaging about 35 to 40 senior adults weekly with the average age being 70 to 80. In return we committed to provide people to work, money to finance the ministries and leadership to impact the community for Christ. Worship services would be provided via video from our main campus. After knocking on about 4000 doors and having a free community event on September 24 where 29 people accepted Christ we had our first kickoff service on September 25 with 237 in attendance. God blessed and our Lexington Campus was launched! We're excited and grateful for what God has done but we believe “the best is yet to come!”
