As Life Community’s minister to students, these are exciting times for Pastor Rob. After years of planning, the new youth building is now a reality – empowering Rob and the youth with new strategies for reaching the lost. And make no mistake, the fields are ripe for harvest.
“You look around at the high school and middle school campuses and see how many kids go to church compared to those who don’t, and it’s just staggering,” he says. “The sad part is there are just so many hours in the day.”
The opening of the new building enables more creative strategies – strategies that simply weren’t practical when the youth were sharing a multipurpose, congregational facility. Planet Impacts on Friday nights give students an opportunity to have fun and it provides a safe environment for them to congregate together.
“Students desire to see their friends come to Christ, and these are just nonconfrontational ways for them to make that first step,” he says.
Pastor Rob understands all to well what’s at stake. Growing up in Houston, Rob recalls making his fair share of mistakes as a youth. He wasn’t saved until he was 26, and his path to the ministry was anything but a direct flight. For years, he was in aviation, first with the Air Force, and later with companies like American Eagle and repair firm Timco. While he’s been involved in youth ministry for a dozen years, it was the spring of 2004 when he finally submitted to God’s call to full-time ministry.
“When I look around, I’m amazed that God’s given me the opportunity to serve him in this capacity. I’ve got the greatest job in the world. I can go to my desk and it’s encouraged for me to read the Bible. And I get paid for it?!”
Truth be told, Rob confesses to still being a kid at heart. But while he has fun, he can also relate to students’ troubles.
“For me, it’s almost a way of turning back the clock. I see kids with divorced parents or kids that are going through issues. I was there, too, so my heart is to help them through the awkward teenage years. Plus, I get to go on cool trips.”

HOW CAN WE SUPPORT YOU WITH PRAYER?
Pray for wisdom and understanding of the challenges students face so that he can be as effective as possible in reaching the lost.
FAVORITE SCRIPTURE 2 Kings 6:16-17
A servant is afraid because he and Elisha are surrounded by enemy forces, and Elisha prays that the servant’s eyes would be opened to see the multitude of heavenly forces on their side. Explains Rob: “I think a lot of times we get so caught up in what we can see that we’re not seeing the things God is doing behind the scenes.”
TO THE CONGREGATION - “Thank you LCC for your continued prayers and support for the youth ministry and my growth as a pastor. You are a constant blessing to me and my family, and we consider all of you family. May God continue to show you His grace and love through good times and bad. Keep pressing. Phil 3:14”
