Covenant Keepers

Group Leader: Brian Newell
Meeting Day: Sunday
Meeting Time: 9:30am
Meeting Location: Room 128
Group Description:

The Covenant Keepers are a discussion lead class that includes adults of all stages of life; married, divorced, widowed and single, whose ages range from 30 – 80+. The curriculum used is Lifeway: Explore the Bible material. The current study is from the book of Mark. After Mark, there will be a return to the Old Testament and the focus will be on the Book of Genesis. Covenant Keepers is a smaller class which encourages members to share, as they feel comfortable, what God has showed them in the weekly verses and questions. The diverse age range and stages of life lead to wonderful discussions, enlightening the group from different viewpoints and life experiences. This helps the group to grow closer to each other and closer to Christ. Covenant Keepers support church ministries as able and the ladies of the group meet once a month for lunch. Quarterly class luncheons are also enjoyed!
All are welcome and encouraged to share their thoughts on the lessons during our discussions. Please feel free to contact Brian Newell 336-327-1948 if you have any questions or need more information.

Disciples

Group Leader: Dr. Randy Harris
Meeting Day: Sunday
Meeting Time: 11:00am
Meeting Location: Room 128
Group Description:

The Disciples LIFE Group is led by co-teachers Randy Harris and Chris Furr. The class is made up of mostly empty nesters, typically age 50-70’s, with both couples and singles attending. There is an average attendance of around 25 people. Digging deep into God’s Word, taking a verse-by-verse approach to study one book of the Bible at a time is what you can expect when you attend this LIFE group. Depending on the passage of Scripture being read that week, a chapter may be covered, or it may just be a focus on one or two verses. Over the past couple of years, there have been studies on 1st, 2nd, & 3rd John, and Romans. The present study is the Gospel of Matthew.
The class usually begins with a fellowship time with coffee and a treat for the first 15 minutes or so, then about 45 minutes in our Bible study, with prayer requests at the end. The teaching style is discussion based, using questions to encourage conversation. It is usually a lively class, with members having the freedom to share their heart or ask questions. However, no one is ever called upon or asked to speak if they do not desire to do so! There are organized fellowships about every other month, such as cook outs, holiday parties, bonfires, Sunday lunches, and occasional field trips. ‘Disciples’ members, look for opportunities to serve together, including volunteering at CEF Good News Clubs, supporting Siloam Missionary Homes at Christmas, and serving a meal every other month at Weaver House through Urban Ministries.
This LIFE group has some who have been members of the class for years, and others who are brand new. As the group studies the Bible, prays for each other, fellowships, and serves together, the goal is to encourage each other to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

Engaged & Young Married ~ The Forge

Group Leader: Hinnants, Hockadays, Madisons, McPhersons
Meeting Day: Sunday
Meeting Time: 11:00am
Meeting Location: Room 229
Group Description:

The Forge takes its name from Zechariah 13:9 “…and refine them as one refines silver and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The LORD is my God.’” Not only do we want to be refined individually, but also as couples by promoting growth in our marriages.
The class is geared toward engaged and married couples. While some have been married longer, the majority of the class has been married 5 years or less. About half don’t have children yet while the other half are on their first.
Four couples rotate teaching once a month: William and Kaylin Hockaday, Joe and Landis Hinnant, Brandon and Angela Madison, and Ken and Angel McPherson. Each couple has a slightly different teaching style yet try to balance lecture and discussion. This LIFE group alternates between topical studies and studying a book of the Bible.
‘The Forge’ participates in various service opportunities together (OCC Shoeboxes, Trunk or Treat, etc.) and members are strongly encouraged to serve individually in whatever area they are gifted.
You can find individuals serving in various capacities from Life Littles to Security to the Info Desk just to name a few.
The first Sunday of each month, the group divides guys and girls for “D(iscipleship) Group”. During this time, sharing is more intimate and the opportunity to discuss and strengthen our walks with the Lord is encouraged. The 5th Sundays offer a time of fellowship and a brunch. The goal of this LIFE group is to have a social gathering or ministry every other month.
