It is always difficult trying to figure out what we’re going to get others for Christmas. I heard about one little guy who got a harmonica from his uncle. A few days later he saw his uncle for the 1st time since receiving the gift & with a big smile said, “Thanks for the harmonica you gave me for Christmas, It’s the best present ever.” His uncle said “You’re welcome. Do you know how to play it?” The little guy said “No, I don’t play it. My mom gives me a dollar a day not to play it during the day and my dad gives me five dollars a week not to play it at night!" That’s a gift that keeps on giving.
We’re about to celebrate the gift that keeps on giving, the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Soon we’ll be hearing friends, family and even strangers smiling and saying “Merry Christmas.” But how do you really have a merry Christmas? To have a merry Christmas we must focus on the Christ of Christmas and honor Him in all that we say and do because Christmas is all about Christ. Christmas is a never changing message to all mankind that says you matter to God; that God cares about you and loves you unconditionally.
Christmas celebrates the birth of our Lord. It reveals a life changing moment in time when the infinite infant, God in the flesh became man; incredible, inconceivable yet, undeniable. Heaven touched earth and God directly intervened in human history providing abundant and eternal life. Christmas is an exciting time of bright lights and decorations, fun and festivities and a time of food, family and friends. It is a reflective time as we meditate on the virgin birth and celebrate Immanuel, God with us and because His presence we can experience love, joy and hope even in the most difficult times. Christmas is always a tremendous opportunity to show and share the love of Christ to a lonely and hurting world.
On December 13th we will have the opportunity to impact the world and invest in God’s Kingdom by giving our gift to Jesus as we celebrate His birthday. Our goal as a church is $60,000. During the service mangers will be down front for you to come and place your monetary gift in the manger. Every dollar given will go directly to support faithful missionaries all over the world to reach the lost and unchurched. There are over 7000 unreached people groups and this has been an extremely difficult year for our missionaries. We may not be able to go but we can give to those who have gone. Please pray and be prepared to generously give your gift to our Lord on His birthday!
It breaks my heart to say this, but our Candlelight Christmas eve service will be online. Every year we’ve had a packed house, an overflowing crowd therefore there is no room to distance people safely. But we have planned a very exciting, encouraging online service for 5:00 on the 24th. Gather with your family and join us as we celebrate the birth of our King.
As we prepare to conclude this year and celebrate the Christmas season may I encourage you to “make memories” that you will always cherish. Make memories with your family and church family that will honor our Lord, build His Kingdom and bless your life. The most memorable Christmas ever, awaits each of us if we’ll step out by faith and allow the Christ of Christmas to live in and through us.
May you and your family have a Merry CHRISTmas and a Happy New Year,
Your Pastor and Friend,
